When asked, one hundred happily married couples listed the following as marriage “deal-breakers.” The number one deal-breaker of them all is cheating. Although some said they would be willing to try to work through infidelity, most thought they couldn’t. The second is dishonesty. Many people believe a marriage should be built on absolute trust. Without trust, some said they could not continue in the relationship. Addictions are next. Whether drugs, alcohol, gambling, or pornography, addictions create trust issues. The fourth deal-breaker is abuse. Many people said if a spouse hit them or hurt their children the relationship would be over. Finally, major changes in priorities, anything from religious changes to job priorities, can end relationships.
