A recent survey showed that 20% of American women suffer from sexual pain, 15% before menopause and 33% after.  Many doctors have dismissed this pain as neurotic. Some men don’t believe it when women say they experience pain, some going so far as to think that sex should hurt women. While there are many causes of female sexual pain, the good news is that most of it can be cured. Relief can come in a variety of ways, including adding lubrication, changing sexual practices, changing medications, seeing a sex therapist, and consulting a doctor.  Men can also help by taking a woman’s sexual pain seriously.
