The Sessions, a movie that will hit theaters next week, has brought sexual surrogacy into public awareness. The movie is about a severely disabled journalist and poet, Mark O’Brien, and his real-life experience with his surrogate partner, Cheryl Cohen Greene. Frequently misunderstood, often maligned, sexual surrogacy has been around for a long time. Linda Poelzl, a professional sexual surrogate partner for 17 years, works closely with Jill Denton, a sex therapist, to heal their clients both psychologically and physically. Because sexual intercourse is often involved, many view surrogates as prostitutes, but the movie shows that surrogates can truly help people overcome sexual challenges.
