Wedding rings are a cultural invention that says a lot about human nature and our mating system. Wedding rings are a universal symbol signalling to others that the wearer is married and is already in a committed relationship. Why then do some married people not wear wedding rings? They are probably the same people who tell everything about themselves on Facebook except the fact that they’re married. One explanation for not wearing the wedding ring is because the person is still (unofficially) in the mating market. They want to keep their married status secret and their options open.
