When it comes to sex, there is still a double standard regarding the role sex plays in men and women’s lives. Men are expected to be sexually active but the same is not true for women. Men use pornography and are open about sex but women who do the same are considered to be abominations. Men can be sex addicts, but women are considered “love addicts.” The truth is, women make up at least 10% of sex addicts seeking help. The following are believed to contribute to the development of sexual addiction: abuse, early trauma, early exposure to sexual situations, and other family-oriented factors.
